The East is running at about 84 cfs today and has still been fishing pretty well. The water temps (as well as the air temps) have come down considerably over the the last couple weeks, the caddis have started to bo away, however the hoppers are still out during the day, all these things have lined up to make things on the EW pretty good. The "Mile" section still hasn't fully recovered though there are some fish there and some anglers have been having some limited success, most of the good action has been past the bridge and on into Nevada on the Sceirine and the Rosachi sections. Some patterns we've been hearing good things about: sculpzilla, ziwi, double bunny, dead drift crayfish, perdigon, copper John, soft hackle, darth baetis, flashback emerger, rubberlegs, rubberleg stimulator, para hopper, Daves hopper.
The Sceirine has also been fishing very well, lots of good streamer and dry/dropper reports as well as some good straight nymphing reports. We have lots of days booked over the next couple weeks so if you're interested in booking some time on the ranch try to give us a call with plenty of lead time so we can get you on the calendar.
The pond fish very well over the last couple days with at least one of the anglers out there reporting having 15 + fish days 2 days in a row. The weeds are a little bit of an issue still but it sounds like it's not enough of a hinderance to keep the fish away. There are some strips of clear water that have been mowed that need to be focused on, this is where the fish seem to be hanging out and feeding the most. Small leech patterns, soft hackles and various nymphs have been the ticket.
It sounds like the water clarity on the Reservoir is getting better and better lately with some anglers starting to get some trolling in again. There are still some good reports coming in from up in the East Walker channel fishing bait like pinched crawlers, mice tails and power bait but it's time to keep an eye on the trolling with some Thomas Bouyants, night crawlers and Rapalas. Usually when the trolling starts to get good again it's not too long before the shore fishing picks up as well so we'll look forward to that as well.
We had a couple reports from Kirman this week but unfortunately the angler we talked to did not have any success. It sounds like they were seeing some fish moving and hitting the surface but were unable to get any takes. Hopefully this situation will change for the better as the weather cools and before the season closes.
The Twins have picked up nicely this past week with some reports coming in of some decent browns in the 2 to 5 pound range being caught as well as some good rainbows up to around 5 or 6 pounds being landed. The cooler weather and water temps seems to have brought some fish into more shallow water where they're easier to reach both with bait and on the troll. Successful trolling anglers have been using Thomas Bouyants, Kastmasters and Rapalas while bait anglers have been using power bait, mice tails, pinched crawlers and inflated crawlers.
The West is still enjoying some good action with good reports coming in from fly anglers as well as spin anglers. It still sounds like the best area is up towards the North end of the canyon closer to the town of Walker, lots of nice pan sized fish and a few larger ones here and there. Fly anglers are using dry/dropper rigs as well as attractor nymphs on the bottom, bait anglers are using power eggs, salmon eggs and night crawlers. Lure anglers are having some success withVibrax lures, Panther Martins and Roostertails.
The Virginias (and Trumbull) are still one of the hotspots lately with lots of good reports coming in from all three of those lakes. Bait anglers are doing well with pinched crawlers, mice tails and power bait, lure anglers are using Thomas Bouyants and Kastmasters. Fly anglers are doing well with wooly buggers, mini leeches, balanced leeches, soft hackles and zug bugs.
The new website is up and running, I think all the links and such are working properly!
As of about Sept. 23 or so the Fall Colors have started to change, it's not in full swing yet but there are lots of colors up in the Twin Lakes drainage as well as the Tamarack area that you can see from town. No telling when they'll max out or how long they'll last but they're getting going right now!
